Introduction
Hi Everyone! My name is Luke Ishihara, and I was born in Japan, but I’m actually an American. California is where I lived the longest, but I’ve actually lived in several states including Missouri, Oklahoma, Illinois, and most recently Oregon. I have a BA in English Literature and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I’ve been teaching English for over 20 years with the first half at the City Colleges of Chicago, Kwansei Gakuin University, and the University of Oregon. I spent the next decade teaching at Saudi Aramco, the largest oil company in the world, before serving the USA through the US Department of State’s Virtual Educator program.
In my free time, I enjoy Brazilian Jiujitsu, scuba diving, and spending time with my family. I’ve competed in jiujitsu tournaments in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. I’ve also logged dives in Saudi, Oman, Egypt, Maldives, Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand. I like taking my family to places in nature, but also enjoy playing Dragon Quest or reading Harry Potter to my son.
With my background in both academic and business English, I hope to assist students in learning the language necessary to be successful at global corporations, particularly those in Tokyo. I’d love to chat with you about your future careers, so please say hi!
