Introduction
My name is L. G. Michael Brown, but please call me โMike.โ I was born and raised in a small town in northern Michigan called Menominee. I earned a BA in Political Science from Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio), and was an exchange student in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in my senior year. I have served in the U.S. Navy and have traveled extensively throughout Asia and Europe โ I love to travel, so I am happy to talk to you about your travels too! Following my time in the Navy, I earned my masterโs degree in Teaching (MAT in TESOL) and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California (USC). I enjoy being in nature, hiking, swimming, playing guitar, listening to live music, and enjoying museums and cultural activities. I have taught at universities in the U.S. and Japan and am thrilled to be back in Japan. I spent my 2025 summer at Oxford Universityโs Exeter College in a creative writing course and am writing a fiction novel. Wish me luck!
