Some verbs need an object
- Use a dictionary:
- “transitive” = needs an object
- “with object” = needs an object
- “intransitive” ≠ needs an object
- “no object” ≠ needs an object
Some verbs have two objects
a direct object & an indirect object
“I gave the book to my friend.”
direct object = “the book”
indirect object = “my friend”
The indirect object is often part of a prepositional phrase, and it can come before or after the direct object.
